Mythimna or Molyvos
It is one of the most picturesque and well-restored medieval settlements of Greece and Mediterranean , at the Northwestern side of Lesvos and at a distance of 62Km away from Mytilene. Its historic presence is found back at prehistoric times.

Traces of the ancient Mythimna are spread at the surrounding area: ruins of a polygonal wall of the 8th BC century, of an ancient temple, of Roman constructions, while a lot of these archaeological findings are exhibited at the Archaeological Museum of the Town Hall.

The name of Mythimna derives from the name of Makara's daughter - according to Greek mythology, mythical King of Lesvos - and the second following name "Molyvos" appeared during the medieval years.

’

It is amphitheatrically built on a rocky hill, on the top of which we can admire the medieval Castle, well-restored and used for cultural happenings during summer.

In Mythimna, we meet old stone- built houses, with tiled roofs, two storeyed with small balconies, paved streets, stone Ottomans' fountains with excellent inscriptions, elements in total harmony with the beauty of the natural environment. Worth noticing are the mansions - built at the end of the 18th century - like the mansion of Giannakou and the Building of Fine Arts ( mansion of Kralli ).

Extremely interesting is the Turkish building of public baths, the Public Library and the Archaeological Collection housed at the building of Mythimna's Town Hall, the Public Gallery and the interesting churches dedicated to Taxiarches ( Archangels ) ( built in 1795 ), of Ayios Panteleimonas with special neoclassic architectural elements ( built in 1844 ), of Ayias Kyriakis and of Ayios Nikolaos.

At the edge of the settlement, the port integrates the unique picture of the area. It is a picturesque port, with many traditional coffee shops and fish taverns.

Also there is a wonderful beach with colorful stones and crystal clear water. There, we can see the building of an old olive press that today -restored- houses a hotel. The cultural activities are extremely intensive, especially during summer : theatrical performances, exhibitions of popular art, seminars, conferences, festivities, etc.

The area has a plentiful of various tourism accommodations, that guarantee unforgettable and convenient holidays.
