A stony island full of shrubs and thyme bushes, Folegandros is the ideal place for those who crave to be close to nature, away from the stifling tourists places. Most of the beaches are steep but they have golden sands and can easily be reached by foot (since the distance are short) or by bus or boat. Important sites to see are the Castle of Folegandrou and the caves of Chrisospilia, which still happens to be unexplored. The main town, which shares the same name as the island, has still kept its medieval colors and atmosphere, which is built on the edge of a large rock over the sea.
