The Majestic Nafplio, which was the first capital city of Greece, is undoubtedly, and not without a reason, the first choice for those who wish to combine the historical element and romanticism with the contemporary touristic infrastructure. By maintaining the historical identity in the old town, where you will find Venetian architecture combined with neoclassic finesse, Nafplio satisfies even the most demanding guests. Palamidi, the medieval Venetian castle that overlooks the town, Bourtzi, a small island on the entrance of the port, which used to be the residence of the Palamidi executioners and Akronafplia, the acropolis of the ancient town, which is built in three levels, are only few of the monuments that will amaze you. You also have to visit the Archaeological Museum, which hosts treasures of the Mycenaean art, the Folk Art Museum and the War Museum, which used to be a Military School. You shouldn't miss the Syntagma Square with the two Turkish mosques, one of which used to be the first Parliament of Greece and the church of Saint Spyridon, where Kapodistrias (the first governor) was murdered. Nearby you will find the archaeological site of Tirintha with the ruins of the Mycenaean acropolis, Mycenae, the famous ancient theatre in Epidavros and the Asclipios Altar, monuments that all of us should visit, to understand the grandeur of the ancient civilization. But Nafplio is not only the monuments in the town and around it. As we said before, it satisfies every need, so for the funs of the sea there are some terrific beaches, such as Tolo, New and Old Epidavros, Porto Heli and Hermione. Don't forget that Nafplio is only a few hours away from Athens, so it is ideal even for a one-day excursion. Visit Nafplio, this majestic town and meet all those historical monuments that Greece is known for.
