CHIOS TOWN (Chora)
A bustling town, an architectural mix of old and new – the town was rebuilt after the earthquakes of 1881, and being freed from Turkish occupation in 1912.
The old town of Chios “Kastro – (Fortress)” is still clearly visible. The high walls used for protection against pirates and invaders, the evidence of what was formerly a moat around these walls, provide a first indication that the island is rich with history.
